"Alternative" usually means "another general platform" — and that's the problem
When a category gets excluded from one general marketplace, the instinct is to move to another general marketplace. But real fur has already been excluded, in turn, from ASOS (2017), Depop (2019), Meta's Shops and paid advertising, and now Etsy (from 11 August 2026). A generalist platform can drop fur again at any time, because fur is a small part of its catalogue and a large part of its reputational exposure. An "alternative" that isn't built around fur specifically is one policy update away from the same outcome.
What an actual replacement should offer fur sellers
- A category that is the whole point, not a tolerated exception that can be cut.
- Accurate species labelling as a baseline, not an afterthought — mink, fox, sable, rabbit and similar named precisely.
- Verified sellers, so buyers trust the listing and not just the platform's brand.
- A way to bring your existing catalogue — your listing texts and photos, not a rebuild from zero.
- Documented compliance — species and origin checks that protect both seller and buyer, rather than a policy that arrives without warning.
Start by saving what you already have
Whichever platform you choose next, do this first: Etsy's CSV export only includes listings that are currently active, so anything delisted on 11 August drops out of the export too. Our export guide covers the exact steps, including what the CSV does and doesn't contain.
