Vintage fur is a distinct category, not a smaller version of new fur
A vintage mink stole from the 1960s or an inherited fox-trimmed coat is not the same listing as a newly made piece. Buyers look for different things — condition, era, craftsmanship, and often a story — and the general marketplaces that still tolerate secondhand goods rarely have anyone on staff who understands fur well enough to describe it accurately.
What to check before you list a vintage fur piece
- Name the species precisely, where you can tell — mink, fox, rabbit, sable, muskrat and similar are all different in the eyes of a serious buyer, and a vague "fur" listing undersells the piece.
- Note condition honestly — pelt dryness, missing hooks, lining wear and any repairs a buyer would want to know about.
- Keep any paperwork. Old receipts, furrier labels or family provenance notes make a vintage piece easier to trust and often easier to sell.
- Check where you can ship. Within the EU, documentation requirements for fur can differ by country and by species — when in doubt, describe the piece accurately and be ready to answer questions rather than guess.
